PATTA X TOMMY HILFIGER: AFRICAN STRENGTH AND UNITY
Patta teams up for the first time with American brand Tommy Hilfiger for a collaboration focused on celebrating the strength and unity of the African Diaspora, centering on the colors of the Pan-African flag, also known as the UNIA flag, “Universal Negro Improvement Association”.
According to the UNIA the three colors on the Black Nationalist flag represent:
- red: the blood that unites all people of Black African ancestry, and shed for liberation
- black: black people whose existence as a nation, though not a nation-state, is affirmed by the existence of the flag; and
- green: the abundant natural wealth of Africa
The capsule collection aims to capture the strenght and influence of the African diaspora with the message “unity is strenght, division is weakness”.
The Amsterdam-based label has reworked the iconic white, red and blue Tommy logo, with an aim to put African culture and its communities everywhere in the world as its main focus.
On this capsule collaboration we find a range of t-shirts, jeans, sweats, hoodies, and accessories, Patta dives into Tommy’s archives to reinvent their classic garments with traditional Pan-African colors.
The colorful and amazing lookbook was shot by well known Moroccan artist Hassan Hajjaj. The vibrant images are a reflection of the artist’s signature combined with the African power this collection is delivering.
Along with the lookbook, Patta x Tommy Hilfiger brings us this mesmerizing movie by Dafe Oboro, shot in Lagos, Nigeria.
The prodigious mixture of the Nigerian colors, the people, their culture with the garments from the collection is hypnotizing, and the result is this brilliant piece of visual art.
The PATTAxTOMMY range will be available via the Patta retail network and PattaxTommy.com globally beginning Friday, April 9, 2021 at 1 p.m. CEST, and via selected wholesale partners starting April 16, 2021.
