Mndsgn Rare Pleasure Album
Mndsgn, also known as Ringgo Ancheta, already in 2018 began to build on dreams and song sketches that would later form the new album Rare Pleasure. This Stones Throw album brings together the music that has inspired Mndsgn over the years (R&B, jazz, psychedelia, soundtracks …) in a rich and free sound.
To put this vision into reality, Mndsgn brought together a wonderful group of artists including Kiefer Shackelford (piano), Will Logan (drums), Swarvy (guitar, bass), Fousheé, Devin Morrison, and Anna Wise (voice) Carlos Niño (percussion ), Miguel Atwood Ferguson (strings) and other contemporaries. It only took a week for everyone to express themselves: “The process was quite natural and aligned with my approach to capture the illusion of a moment in time.”
Ringgo describes his vision of “rare pleasure” as an appreciation of sharing life, inner reflection, and the gift of enjoying a catharsis. Embedded throughout the album is a “Rare Pleasure” theme inspired by the music from the soundtracks; its repetitions and variations “echo the recurring motifs we experience in life, sometimes revised by the same lessons in different shapes and forms.”
The lyrics are born from some of Ringgo’s life experiences: “Hope You’re Doin ‘Better” he wrote while a loved one was suffering from mental illness. “Although communication between us was cut off, it gave me the opportunity to truly become familiar with the concept of loving from afar.” ‘Medium Rare’ and ‘Colors of the Sunset’ seek relevance through simple acts of self-love and reflection. “Abundance” is about “the inner abundance that is always accessible, whether we realize it or not”, and “Slowdance” is dedicated to the fragility of oneself in new relationships.
Although what Rare Pleasure transmits seems especially important for the moment we are living, this is not new for Mndsgn, it is something that has always accompanied him: “We are beings who live this human life that will only happen once and only once, each moment infused with magical impermanence, a rarity. “
Ever since Ringgo started making music, it has always been his goal to explore the human aspect through music.
If we unite all of his work, it narrates his evolution, and always wondering: how can we live in a way that is true to ourselves? How can we find beauty in every day and the unknown?
This is one of the many charms that attract us to the music and work of Mndsgn.
